Shafts for Your Application
Each component is manufactured to your requirements. These examples help identify the geometry and interfaces to discuss with 6CNC.
01
Stepped shafts
Multi-diameter shafts with bearing seats, shoulders, and interfaces for gears or other mounted components.
02
Motor & drive shafts
Rotating components with defined coupling fits, bearing surfaces, and runout requirements.
03
Threaded & custom shafts
Shafts with threads, grooves, keyways, or other specified features for custom mechanical assemblies.
04
Automotive shaft components
Drawing-based components with the material condition, load-related design requirements, and acceptance criteria provided by your team.
Engineering review
Bearing Seats, Steps, and Fits in Alignment
Start with the features that determine fit, function, and acceptance. 6CNC reviews these requirements before confirming the manufacturing route.
01
Identify functional datums and fits
Specify bearing seats, coupling diameters, shoulder positions, and the axis used to inspect runout.
02
Review the length-to-diameter geometry
Provide the full shaft envelope so 6CNC can plan support, setups, and checks for machining deformation.
03
Coordinate roughness and final size
Mark grinding requirements, seal contact zones, surface roughness, and dimensions after heat treatment or coating.

Shafts Machining Specifications
Use these published 6CNC reference ranges to begin your enquiry. The quotation confirms what applies to your actual part.
| Item | Published scope & project review |
|---|---|
| Materials | Stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and alloy steel. |
| Published diameter range | 5–300 mm, subject to geometry and process review. |
| Published length reference | Up to 1000 mm; feasibility depends on diameter, material, support, and required tolerances. |
| Tolerance reference | ±0.01–±0.05 mm; specify bearing fits, roundness, and runout separately. |
| Quantity | 1–600 pieces. |
| Processes & finishing | CNC turning, milling, and grinding; polishing, coating, and plating as specified. |

Material and Finish, Planned Together
Specify the material
Provide the alloy, material condition, and any specified treatment or hardness. 6CNC reviews these with the shaft geometry and finishing requirements.
Define the finished condition
Coordinate grinding and coating with the final bearing, seal, and coupling fits. Mark untreated surfaces and any roughness requirements at sliding or rotating contacts.

Inspection Follows the Features That Matter
The inspection plan connects diameter, roundness, shoulder location, runout, and surface condition to the drawing datums. Confirm the support and measurement arrangement for longer shafts.

01
Review the drawing
Confirm the material, geometry, critical features, quantity, and acceptance requirements.
02
Agree the route
Plan machining, workholding, any outside treatments, and inspection checkpoints.
03
Machine & finish
Produce the agreed drawing revision and coordinate the specified finishing sequence.
04
Inspect & prepare
Complete the agreed checks, documentation, and packaging for the order.

Shafts Machining FAQ
Does a diameter tolerance also control runout?
No. Define the runout requirement and reference datum separately, together with bearing fits, roundness, and surface condition where needed.
Can you combine turning, milling, and grinding?
Yes. 6CNC reviews the sequence for stepped diameters, flats, grooves, threads, and ground interfaces according to the drawing.
Can every 1000 mm shaft be produced?
The published length is a reference, not an unconditional envelope. Diameter, material, straightness, workholding, and inspection access must be reviewed.
